When we set out with the ambition of developing the first Zero Emission Food Company, we knew the journey would not be easy.

Taking on one of the largest consumer categories in the world and successfully presenting this idea would require considerable work, a little ingenuity, and, like any business, it comes with financial costs. As the vision of NZ0 developed, we became aware of the commitment the NZ government has when supporting initiatives that reduce the carbon impact of New Zealand farmers.

“Taking on one of the largest consumer categories in the world and successfully presenting this idea would require considerable work, a little ingenuity, and, like any business, it comes with financial costs.”

One such supporting initiative is the AGMARDT Food and Fibres Challenge. A contestable fund, its goal is to support those working towards innovations that break new ground in the drive towards a zero-carbon economy.

We are confident that creating a dedicated food brand to connect sustainable farmers with climate-conscious consumers will have a huge impact on the direction of fossil fuel use in NZ agriculture. Having said that, we appreciate that we need support in order to achieve this, and are proud to say that we have been accepted into the first round.

This means we can now present in more detail our vision of clean energy farming, with the hope of receiving funding for costs like research and brand development.  Although it is excellent news to make it to the final round, it certainly does not guarantee anything. At the moment, we are working diligently on the next application, while simultaneously progressing with the development of NZ0. We look forward to updating you soon. Wish us luck!

Update 24/10/21 - Unfortunately we were unsuccessful with our application due to the nature of our funds structure. We have however, been advised to reapply for the agribusiness innovation grant which is more suitable to our project. We look forward to sharing the outcome in November.
